In July 2012 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & Early British Drawings and Watercolours, which included the work Portrait of Lord Sidney Beauclerk (1703-1744), half-length, in a grey velvet coat and white stock by Rosalba Carriera. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 229,250.00 (€ 292,002.88), 27% above the upper estimate. Other works by Rosalba Carriera have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of GBP 421,250.00 (€ 535,202.87) in July 2008 for the work Portrait of Gustavus Hamilton (1710-1746), 2nd Viscount Boyne, long bust-length, wearing an ermine trimmed coat, tricorn hat and mask.
