Despite a disappointment, a good price for Rosa Bonheur
This work of art by Rosa Bonheur could be acquired at Christies in New York in May 2017 for an unexpectedly low price. In the 19th Century European Art auction, the work Le Roi de la forêt changed hands for USD 607,500.00 (€ 540,672.84) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 800,000.00 – 1,200,000.00. Despite this disappointing result, Le Roi de la forêt is the most expensive artwork by Rosa Bonheur that we have observed at auction so far.
