Small quarto (208 x 166mm). Printed in red and black. 38 black and white illustrations. Original wood-effect paper-covered boards, spine and front cover printed in blue (small, neat repair near the spine foot, endpapers faintly browned).
FIRST EDITION of this important Surrealist book and antecedent to Kerouac and Beat. It is based on a diary kept by Penrose on a pre-War journey through the Balkans with Lee Miller, to whom the work is dedicated. Cover design by Hans Bellmer. Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work The Road Is Wider Than Long. London: London Gallery Editions, 1939. by Roland Penrose was sold in the Photobooks auction at Christies in London in May 2010. It achieved a price of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,100.74), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 17%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Roland Penrose achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Artifact in February 2018 with an auction result of GBP 75,000.00 (€ 84,722.79).

Die Arbeit The Road Is Wider Than Long. London: London Gallery Editions, 1939. von Roland Penrose wurde im Mai 2010 in der Auktion Photobooks bei Christies in London versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 3.500,00 (€ 4.100,74) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 17%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Roland Penrose erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Artifact im Februar 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 75.000,00 (€ 84.722,79).
