Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Arch of the Goldsmiths, The base of Trajan's Column, 1850s by Robert MacPherson was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2000, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,175.00 (€ 1,885.44). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert MacPherson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Australian Mayfair: September (Vertical Orange) In Memory Of E.M.M. in August 2009 with an auction result of AUD 38,400.00 (€ 22,576.12).
