Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Robert Cleveley could be acquired at Sothebys in London in July 2011 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master and British Drawings Including Property from the Descendants of Walter Brandt auction, the work Taking Crew To An English Frigate, Near The Needles, Isle Of Wight changed hands for GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,151.84) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 4,000.00. Admittedly, works by Robert Cleveley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Dutch Smalschips And Hookers In A Calm On The Scheldt; And Dutch Smalschips Returning To Their Anchorage On The Scheldt (Both Illustrated) in June 2013 with an auction result of GBP 12,500.00 (€ 14,589.74).
