Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2000 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Pictures, which included the work Portrait of Lady Becher (1791-1872), née Eliza O'Neill, seated three-quarter-length, in a white dress and red shawl, holding a script, by an urn, in a river landscape by Richard Westall. It changed hands for a price of GBP 3,290.00 (€ 5,215.06) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Westall achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Faust and Lilith in December 2012 with an auction result of GBP 55,250.00 (€ 68,138.59).
