Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Sir Philip Tyrwhitt, 4Th Bt. (1633-1688), In Gilt-Studded Armour With Lawn Collar, Long Curling Brown Hair by Richard Gibson was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2013. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 13,537.87) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Richard Gibson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A fine portrait miniature of Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland (1640-1709), in gold dress with puffed sleeves, slashed to reveal white underdress and fastened at shoulder with three pearl-set bands, diamond-set crucifix worn at corsage, wearing, which sold at auction in July 2010 for GBP 30,000.00 (€ 36,071.62).
