Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Circa 1660 by Richard Gibson was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2018. The price achieved of GBP 4,375.00 (€ 4,874.14) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by Richard Gibson have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A fine portrait miniature of Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland (1640-1709), in gold dress with puffed sleeves, slashed to reveal white underdress and fastened at shoulder with three pearl-set bands, diamond-set crucifix worn at corsage, wearing in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 30,000.00 (€ 36,071.62).
