Upper estimate price exceeded by 65 %.
The work A young gentleman, in gilt-studded armour, lace cravat, long curling hair by Richard Gibson was sold in the Portrait Miniatures, Objects of Vertu, Selected Silver, and auction at Christies in London in November 2005. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,320.00 (€ 1,939.25), 65% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Gibson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A fine portrait miniature of Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland (1640-1709), in gold dress with puffed sleeves, slashed to reveal white underdress and fastened at shoulder with three pearl-set bands, diamond-set crucifix worn at corsage, wearing in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 30,000.00 (€ 36,071.62)

Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A fine portrait miniature of Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland (1640-1709), in gold dress with puffed sleeves, slashed to reveal white underdress and fastened at shoulder with three pearl-set bands, diamond-set crucifix worn at corsage, wearing im Juli 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 30.000,00 (€ 36.071,62).
