Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work The Road Home by William Gilpin was sold in the British and Continental Watercolours auction at Christies in London in March 2006. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 400.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 456.00 (€ 653.37). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Gilpin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Observations on the coasts of Hampshire, Sussex and Kent, relative chiefly to Picturesq [sic beauty; made in the year, 1774; An album of thirty views including Guildford Castle (illustrated), Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Southsea Castle, the Islan|AID697678] in December 2008 with an auction result of GBP 9,375.00 (€ 9,846.
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit The Road Home von William Gilpin wurde im März 2006 in der Auktion British and Continental Watercolours bei Christies in London versteigert. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 400,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 456,00 (€ 653,37) einen neuen Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Gilpin erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Observations on the coasts of Hampshire, Sussex and Kent, relative chiefly to Picturesq [sic beauty; made in the year, 1774; An album of thirty views including Guildford Castle (illustrated), Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Southsea Castle, the Islan|AID697678] im Dezember 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 9.375,00 (€ 9.846,48).
