Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Four Ideal Landscapes Illustrating The Picturesque by William Gilpin was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2004. It achieved a price of GBP 1,792.50 (€ 2,578.50), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 20%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Gilpin - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Observations on the coasts of Hampshire, Sussex and Kent, relative chiefly to Picturesq [sic beauty; made in the year, 1774; An album of thirty views including Guildford Castle (illustrated), Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Southsea Castle, the Islan|AID697678], which sold at auction in December 2008 for GBP 9,375.00 (€ 9,846.48).

Die Arbeit Four Ideal Landscapes Illustrating The Picturesque von William Gilpin kam im November 2004 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 1.792,50 (€ 2.578,50) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 20%.
