Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portsmouth And The Isle of Wight From Postdown Hill by William Gilpin was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2004. The price achieved of GBP 310.70 (€ 452.65) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 200.00 – 400.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Gilpin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Observations on the coasts of Hampshire, Sussex and Kent, relative chiefly to Picturesq [sic beauty; made in the year, 1774; An album of thirty views including Guildford Castle (illustrated), Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Southsea Castle, the Islan|AID697678] in December 2008 with an auction result of GBP 9,375.00 (€ 9,846.
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Observations on the coasts of Hampshire, Sussex and Kent, relative chiefly to Picturesq [sic beauty; made in the year, 1774; An album of thirty views including Guildford Castle (illustrated), Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Southsea Castle, the Islan|AID697678] im Dezember 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 9.375,00 (€ 9.846,48).
