Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work American Rural Baroque by Ralph Steiner was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,250.00 (€ 1,120.57). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ralph Steiner achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled, New York, 1925 in April 2013 with an auction result of USD 25,000.00 (€ 18,985.42).
