Auction result well in line with expectations
In August 2021 Bonhams in Sydney / Melbourne held the auction Important Australian Art, which included the work Matter Painting, c.1961 by Ralph Balson. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of AUD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of AUD 11,070.00 (€ 9,381.36) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ralph Balson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled, 1941 in November 2018 with an auction result of AUD 402,600.00 (€ 355,559.48).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im August 2021 führte Bonhams in Sydney / Melbourne die Auktion Important Australian Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Matter Painting, c.1961 von Ralph Balson zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von AUD 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von AUD 11.070,00 (€ 9.381,36) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ralph Balson erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled, 1941 im November 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von AUD 402.600,00 (€ 355.559,48).
