This artwork by Pieter Withoos achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in December 2014. In the The I.Q. van Regteren Altena Collection Part II. Dutch and Flemish Drawings from 1500-1900 auction, the work Studies Of Butterflies, Moths, Flies, A Beetle And A Slowworm sold for EUR 15,000.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 7,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Pieter Withoos; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Studies Of Insects, Including Two Long-Horned Beetles (Batocera Octomaculata And Eurycephalus Maxillosus), A Nine-Spotted Moth (Amata Phegea), A Yellow-Shell Butterfly (Camptogramma Bilineata) And A Bumblebee (Bombus Hortorum) sold at auction in July 2019 with the realized price of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 24,703.50).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
