In January last year Christies in New York held the auction Old Master & British Drawings, which included the work A praying mantis, two longhorn beetles, a grasshopper in flight and other insects by Pieter Withoos. The »bidding war« ended at USD 6,250.00 (€ 5,574.38), 25% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Pieter Withoos have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Studies Of Insects, Including Two Long-Horned Beetles (Batocera Octomaculata And Eurycephalus Maxillosus), A Nine-Spotted Moth (Amata Phegea), A Yellow-Shell Butterfly (Camptogramma Bilineata) And A Bumblebee (Bombus Hortorum) in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 24,703.50).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im Januar letzten Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Old Master & British Drawings durch, in der auch die Arbeit A praying mantis, two longhorn beetles, a grasshopper in flight and other insects von Pieter Withoos zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 6.250,00 (€ 5.574,38) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Pieter Withoos auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Studies Of Insects, Including Two Long-Horned Beetles (Batocera Octomaculata And Eurycephalus Maxillosus), A Nine-Spotted Moth (Amata Phegea), A Yellow-Shell Butterfly (Camptogramma Bilineata) And A Bumblebee (Bombus Hortorum) im Juli 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 22.500,00 (€ 24.703,50).
