This artwork by Pieter Withoos achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2019. In the Old Master Drawings: Online auction, the work A white-flowered gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) sold for GBP 6,875.00 (€ 8,125.45) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pieter Withoos - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Studies Of Insects, Including Two Long-Horned Beetles (Batocera Octomaculata And Eurycephalus Maxillosus), A Nine-Spotted Moth (Amata Phegea), A Yellow-Shell Butterfly (Camptogramma Bilineata) And A Bumblebee (Bombus Hortorum), which sold at auction in July 2019 for GBP 22,500.00 (€ 24,703.50).
