The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 120,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 374,400.00 (€ 296,577.95). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Pieter Codde; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Family Portrait With Husband, Wife And Two Daughters Seated At A Table Draped In Red Cloth, A Son Playing A Lute, Another Son Holding A Fiddle Beside A Lady Playing The Virginal, A Maidservant Pouring Wine By The Window, And A Dog Resting On The Floor sold at auction in July 2015 with the realized price of GBP 245,000.00 (€ 347,327.
