Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Loyiso Mayga, Wandise Ngcama, Lunga White, Luyanda Mzantsi, Khungsile Mdolo after their initiation ceremony, Mthatha, South Africa by Pieter Hugo was sold in the Photographs auction at Phillips in New York in October 2021. The price achieved of USD 23,940.00 (€ 20,723.68) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pieter Hugo - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Mummy Ahmadu and Mallam Mantari Lamal with Mainasara, Abuja, Nigeria, 2005, which sold at auction in May 2018 for GBP 56,250.00 (€ 64,053.66).
