Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Cock Reed Bunting Perched On A Branch by Pieter Holsteyn the Younger was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,500.00 (€ 1,384.79). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pieter Holsteyn the Younger achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A tulip book: a volume containing 42 drawings of tulips and one added drawing of a tulip, and another drawing of an iris in April 2002 with an auction result of GBP 124,750.00 (€ 201,842.23).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A tulip book: a volume containing 42 drawings of tulips and one added drawing of a tulip, and another drawing of an iris im April 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 124.750,00 (€ 201.842,23).
