Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work An old woman weighing gold, Cupid by her side by Pieter de Grebber was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 3,750.00 (€ 3,938.59). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pieter de Grebber achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a young man in Persian dress in January 2005 with an auction result of USD 430,400.00 (€ 329,833.70).
