This artwork by Pieter Claesz achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2018. In the Old Masters Evening Sale auction, the work Still Life With A 'Jan Steen' Jug, A Peeled Lemon On A Pewter Plate, Bread, A Knife, Olives On A Pewter Plate, Grapes, A Glass And Nuts, All On A Table Partly Draped With A White Cloth sold for GBP 550,000.00 (€ 616,670.94) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 200,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pieter Claesz - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Still Life Of Lemons And Olives, Pewter Plates, A Roemer And A Façon-De-Venise Wine Glass On A Ledge, which sold at auction in July 2016 for GBP 1,805,000.00 (€ 2,144,730.48).
