Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Peter Brueghel II could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in May last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Master Paintings auction, the work The Return from the Inn changed hands for USD 1,865,000.00 (€ 1,737,955.46) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 2,000,000.00 – 3,000,000.00. Admittedly, works by Peter Brueghel II have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Battle between Carnival and Lent in December 2011 with an auction result of GBP 6,873,250.00 (€ 8,231,687.76).
