(57 mm.) high, silver-gilt mount set in silver frame with rose-cut diamond surround and pierced rose-cut diamond set outer border with ribbon and bow cresting, the reverse with initials AH in seed pearls, lock of hair, seed pearls and gold wire on blue foiled glass within engine turned silver-gilt surround

In December 2002 Christies in London held the auction Important Gold Boxes, Objects of Vertu and Portrait, which included the work A young gentleman, facing right in blue coat with large gold buttons, gold-bordered white waistcoat and frilled cravat, powdered wig en queue by Philip Jean. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 4,182.50 (€ 6,420.35), 39% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Philip Jean have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Paul Sandby (1731-1809), In Blue Coat, White Waistcoat And Cravat, Powdered Hair En Queue, Holding A Pen And Open Book; Landscape Background With Windsor Castle In The Distance in November 2013 with an auction result of GBP 35,000.00 (€ 42,117.82).
