Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Nude in Bath, c. 1936 by Paul Outerbridge was auctioned at Christies in New York in March this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 25,200.00 (€ 23,178.81). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Paul Outerbridge achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Ide Collar (An Advertisment made for Geo. P. Ide & Co.) in October 2000 with an auction result of USD 314,000.00 (€ 370,021.21).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Nude in Bath, c. 1936 von Paul Outerbridge im März diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 25.200,00 (€ 23.178,81) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Paul Outerbridge erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Ide Collar (An Advertisment made for Geo. P. Ide & Co.) im Oktober 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 314.000,00 (€ 370.021,21).
