Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Darkroom Mirror Study (0X5A2203) by Paul Mpagi Sepuya was auctioned at Phillips in New York in October this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 7,000.00 – 9,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 6,350.00 (€ 6,008.71). Other works by Paul Mpagi Sepuya have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in October 2021 by the work Self-Portrait Study with Two Figures (1506) at USD 13,860.00 (€ 11,997.92).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Darkroom Mirror Study (0X5A2203) von Paul Mpagi Sepuya im Oktober diesen Jahres bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 7.000,00 – 9.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 6.350,00 (€ 6.008,71) den Besitzer. Andere Arbeiten von Paul Mpagi Sepuya wurden auch schon teurer gehandelt; den höchsten Preis, den wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachten konnten, erzielte im Oktober 2021 die Arbeit Self-Portrait Study with Two Figures (1506) mit USD 13.860,00 (€ 11.997,92).
