Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work View of Clackmannan Tower, Clackmannanshire, Scotland by Patrick Nasmyth was auctioned at Christies in London in August 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 237.50 (€ 268.21). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Patrick Nasmyth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A view near Woburn, Bedfordshire in September 2010 with an auction result of GBP 37,250.00 (€ 43,083.58).
