In June 2005 Christies in London held the auction British Pictures 1500-1850, which included the work A Wooded Landscape With A Pond In The Foreground And Figures On A Path In The Distance by Patrick Nasmyth. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 5,040.00 (€ 7,469.60), 68% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Patrick Nasmyth have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A view near Woburn, Bedfordshire in September 2010 with an auction result of GBP 37,250.00 (€ 43,083.58).
