Oleg Vassiliev pursued a career as a children’s book illustrator which afforded a living to discretely work on his own projects. In the late 1950s Vassiliev started experimenting and working on his own art and in 1968 he had his first and last solo exhibition in the USSR which lasted only a day and took place at the underground Blue Bird Café on Chekhov Street in Moscow. The result of USD 25,000.00 (€ 22,061.42) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Oleg Vassiliev achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Before The Sunset in March 2008 with an auction result of GBP 468,500.00 (€ 588,552.20).
