Auction result well in line with expectations
The work a Rinpa-inspired night scene depicting chrysanthemums in full bloom above a meandering stream by Ohara Koson was sold in the From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries auction at Bonhams in London in May this year. The price achieved of GBP 896.00 (€ 1,042.50) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ohara Koson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hanging scroll, ink and colour on silk, of monkeys in a maple tree over a waterfall, signed Koson and sealed Koson in May 2013 with an auction result of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 13,153.01).
