Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Three woodblock prints by Ogata Gekko was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 756.00 (€ 879.62). Admittedly, works by Ogata Gekko have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Unknown in July 2005 with an auction result of GBP 5,400.00 (€ 7,832.65).
