Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A young girl holding a porcelain doll, full face in white dress with short puff-sleeves, centre-parted curling fair hair; sky background by Nicolas Jacques was sold in the Important Portrait Miniatures including works from the auction at Christies in London in November 2001. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,585.00 (€ 4,113.55) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Nicolas Jacques have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Louis-Philippe of Orléans (1775-1850), King of the French 1830-1848 and his sister, Madame Adélaïde (1777-1847); he, in black coat and waistcoat, pleated cravat and knotted cravat; curling dark hair and thick sidewhiskers; and she, in white dress in December 2003 with an auction result of GBP 14,340.00
