This artwork by Nicolas Jacques achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2003. In the Important Gold Boxes,Objects of Vertu & Portrait Miniatures auction, the work Comte de Flahaut (1785-1870), in blue coat with black collar and large gold buttons, white waistcoat and tied cravat; landscape and sky background sold for GBP 6,572.50 (€ 9,309.09) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Nicolas Jacques - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Louis-Philippe of Orléans (1775-1850), King of the French 1830-1848 and his sister, Madame Adélaïde (1777-1847); he, in black coat and waistcoat, pleated cravat and knotted cravat; curling dark hair and thick sidewhiskers; and she, in white dress, which sold at auction in December 2003 for GBP 14,340.00 (€ 20,310.73)
