Auction result well in line with expectations
In April this year Bonhams held the auction The Marine Sale, which included the work The Boreas shadowing a French frigate off St Eustatius, 1784 by Nicholas Pocock. The price achieved of GBP 1,785.00 (€ 2,034.32) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nicholas Pocock achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Admiral Rodney's flagship H.M.S. Formidable, 98-guns, breaking the line, at the beginning of the Battle of the Saintes, 12th April 1782 in May 2012 with an auction result of GBP 145,250.00 (€ 180,975.11).
Formidable, 98-guns, breaking the line, at the beginning of the Battle of the Saintes, 12th April 1782 im Mai 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 145.250,00 (€ 180.975,11).
