Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Nicholas Pocock achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in April last year. In the Old Master Paintings auction, the work Engagement between the French frigate Cléopâtre and HMS Nymph, under the command of Captain Edward Pellew, off Start Point, Devon 18 June 1793 sold for GBP 30,240.00 (€ 36,060.13) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00. Admittedly, works by Nicholas Pocock have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Admiral Rodney's flagship H.M.S. Formidable, 98-guns, breaking the line, at the beginning of the Battle of the Saintes, 12th April 1782 in May 2012 with an auction result of GBP 145,250.00 (€ 180,975.11).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Nicholas Pocock erzielte im April letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Master Paintings wurde die Arbeit Engagement between the French frigate Cléopâtre and HMS Nymph, under the command of Captain Edward Pellew, off Start Point, Devon 18 June 1793 für GBP 30.240,00 (€ 36.060,13) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 12.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Nicholas Pocock auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Admiral Rodney's flagship H.M.S. Formidable, 98-guns, breaking the line, at the beginning of the Battle of the Saintes, 12th April 1782 im Mai 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 145.250,00 (€ 180.975,11).
