NICHOLAS POCOCK (BRITISH, 1740-1821)

watercolour
17¾ x 25½ in. (45.1 x 64.8 cm.)

Auction result well in line with expectations

The work An Armed Merchantman In Choppy Seas by Nicholas Pocock was sold in the The Sunday Sale auction at Christies in London in December 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 625.00 (€ 849.27) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nicholas Pocock achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Admiral Rodney's flagship H.M.S. Formidable, 98-guns, breaking the line, at the beginning of the Battle of the Saintes, 12th April 1782 in May 2012 with an auction result of GBP 145,250.00 (€ 180,975.11).

Formidable, 98-guns, breaking the line, at the beginning of the Battle of the Saintes, 12th April 1782 im Mai 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 145.250,00 (€ 180.975,11).
