Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2007 Christies in London held the auction Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures), which included the work Captain T. Byam Martin commanding the boats of H.M.S. Impétueux at the rescue of the crew of H.M.S. Venerable wrecked in Torbay, 24th November 1805 by Nicholas Pocock. The price achieved of GBP 3,840.00 (€ 5,650.82) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nicholas Pocock achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Admiral Rodney's flagship H.M.S. Formidable, 98-guns, breaking the line, at the beginning of the Battle of the Saintes, 12th April 1782 in May 2012 with an auction result of GBP 145,250.00 (€ 180,975.11).

Im Mai 2007 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures) durch, in der auch die Arbeit Captain T. Byam Martin commanding the boats of H.M.S. Impétueux at the rescue of the crew of H.M.S. Venerable wrecked in Torbay, 24th November 1805 von Nicholas Pocock zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 3.840,00 (€ 5.650,82) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Nicholas Pocock erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Admiral Rodney's flagship H.M.S.
