Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Ichikawa Sadanji III as Modorikago no Yoshiro, from the series Shinban Butai no sugata-e (New version of portraits of actors in plays) Woodcut with mica ground, 1954.1, signed Bichosai Shunsen ga and sealed Shunsen--very good impression and color, t by Natori Shunsen was auctioned at Christies in New York in March 2003. The price achieved of USD 2,629.00 (€ 2,411.93) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 2,200.00 – 2,800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Natori Shunsen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Sosaku hanga shunsen nigao-e gashu (Creative prints: collected portrait-pictures by Shunsen) in March 2001 with an auction result of USD 25,850.00 (€ 29,395.04).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 2.629,00 (€ 2.411,93) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 2.200,00 – 2.800,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Natori Shunsen erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Sosaku hanga shunsen nigao-e gashu (Creative prints: collected portrait-pictures by Shunsen) im März 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 25.850,00 (€ 29.395,04).
