Auction result well in line with expectations
In February 2013 Sothebys in New York held the auction Important Old Master Paintings and Sculpture, which included the work Portrait Of A Lady With A Lace Collar And Pearls by Michiel van Mierevelt. It changed hands for a price of USD 37,500.00 (€ 28,671.92) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 30,000.00 – 40,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Michiel van Mierevelt - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Jan van der Haer (1609-1665), half-length, in a black silk doublet with cutwork, edged with black lace; and Portrait of Levina Ockers (1607-1678), half-length, in a black dress with a double layered lace-trimmed ruff and jewelled collar, which sold at auction in May 2014 for EUR 79,500.00.
