Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2012 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings, which included the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Three-Quarter Length, Standing, Wearing A Black Tunic And White Ruff by Michiel van Mierevelt. It changed hands for a price of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 21,804.23) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Michiel van Mierevelt - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Jan van der Haer (1609-1665), half-length, in a black silk doublet with cutwork, edged with black lace; and Portrait of Levina Ockers (1607-1678), half-length, in a black dress with a double layered lace-trimmed ruff and jewelled collar, which sold at auction in May 2014 for EUR 79,500.00.
