This artwork by Michiel van Mierevelt achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2011. In the Important Old Master Paintings & Sculpture auction, the work Double Portrait Of A Husband And Wife, He Holding A Tulip And Bulb, A Selection Of Shells On The Shelf Below sold for USD 71,500.00 (€ 52,132.70) - well above the upper estimate of USD 35,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Michiel van Mierevelt; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of Jan van der Haer (1609-1665), half-length, in a black silk doublet with cutwork, edged with black lace; and Portrait of Levina Ockers (1607-1678), half-length, in a black dress with a double layered lace-trimmed ruff and jewelled collar sold at auction in May 2014 with the realized price of EUR 79,500.00.
