In October 2005 Christies in London held the auction Twentieth Century British Art, which included the work Caught and Bowled Copperknob by Mervyn Peake. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,640.00 (€ 3,893.20), 32% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Mervyn Peake have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The red room in April 2019 with an auction result of GBP 13,750.00 (€ 15,995.22).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 32 % übertroffen
Im Oktober 2005 führte Christies in London die Auktion Twentieth Century British Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Caught and Bowled Copperknob von Mervyn Peake zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.640,00 (€ 3.893,20) und damit 32% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Mervyn Peake auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The red room im April 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 13.750,00 (€ 15.995,22).
