Auction result well in line with expectations

The price achieved of GBP 241,250.00 (€ 307,287.66) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 200,000.00 – 300,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Melchior d'Hondecoeter - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A peacock, a peahen, a monkey and other birds on a terrace, which sold at auction in January 2011 for USD 1,650,500.00 (€ 1,203,426.90).

Die Arbeit A shoveler, a Muscovy duck, a mallard, pochards and other waterfowl with ducklings on the banks of a river, with a pigeon and a bird of prey in the air von Melchior d'Hondecoeter kam im Juli 2012 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 241.250,00 (€ 307.287,66) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Melchior d'Hondecoeter mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A peacock, a peahen, a monkey and other birds on a terrace beobachtet, die im Januar 2011 für USD 1.650.500,00 (€ 1.203.426,90) versteigert wurde.
