Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A forest floor with hollyhocks, roses, blue-lace flowers, a sunflower and toadstools, with marigolds in an urn beyond by Matthias Withoos was auctioned at Christies in New York in January this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 37,800.00 (€ 34,813.04). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Matthias Withoos - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Landscape With Drugged Birds In The Flower And Underbrush Of The Wood, which sold at auction in May 2021 for USD 151,200.00 (€ 123,995.41).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A forest floor with hollyhocks, roses, blue-lace flowers, a sunflower and toadstools, with marigolds in an urn beyond von Matthias Withoos im Januar diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 60.000,00 – 80.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 37.800,00 (€ 34.813,04) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Matthias Withoos mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Landscape With Drugged Birds In The Flower And Underbrush Of The Wood beobachtet, die im Mai 2021 für USD 151.200,00 (€ 123.995,41) versteigert wurde.
