Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work A forest floor with a weasel, mouse, opium poppy and thistle, with classical buildings beyond by Matthias Withoos was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2024, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 7,560.00 (€ 6,607.24). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Matthias Withoos achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Landscape With Drugged Birds In The Flower And Underbrush Of The Wood in May 2021 with an auction result of USD 151,200.00 (€ 123,995.41).

Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne

Als die Arbeit A forest floor with a weasel, mouse, opium poppy and thistle, with classical buildings beyond von Matthias Withoos im Januar 2024 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 20.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 7.560,00 (€ 6.607,24) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Matthias Withoos erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Landscape With Drugged Birds In The Flower And Underbrush Of The Wood im Mai 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 151.200,00 (€ 123.995,41).
