Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Pattern Portrait (cyclist) by Matt Sheridan Smith was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in January 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 484.50 (€ 399.26). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Matt Sheridan Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pattern Portrait (Widow) in November 2015 with an auction result of USD 12,500.00 (€ 11,834.88).
