Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of A Family: The Man Holding A Manuscript And Seated Behind His Wife, Who Wears An Ermine Coat And Holds Her Sleeping Infant by Mason Chamberlin was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 17,500.00 (€ 15,696.48). Other works by Mason Chamberlin have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in April 2011 by the work Portrait Of A Girl With A Robin at GBP 16,250.00 (€ 18,300.30).
