Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Untitled (Black Blue Painting) by Mark Rothko was sold in the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale auction at Phillips in London in April 2021. The price achieved of GBP 2,866,000.00 (€ 3,296,733.83) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,500,000.00 – 3,500,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Mark Rothko achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work No. 10 in May 2015 with an auction result of USD 81,925,000.00 (€ 74,517,918.86).

Die Arbeit Untitled (Black Blue Painting) von Mark Rothko wurde im April 2021 in der Auktion 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale bei Phillips in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 2.866.000,00 (€ 3.296.733,83) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 2.500.000,00 – 3.500.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Mark Rothko erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit No. 10 im Mai 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 81.925.000,00 (€ 74.517.918,86).
