Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Street in Charleston, S.C., c. 1940 by Marion Post Wolcott was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 625.00 (€ 439.55). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marion Post Wolcott achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Vegetable pickers, migrants, waiting after work to be paid, near Homestead, Florida, Feb 1939 in October 2021 with an auction result of USD 21,420.00 (€ 18,542.24).
