Auction result misses estimated price range
In April 2005 a collector was able to acquire the work Sain et Sauf by Marcus Stone for USD 192,000.00 (€ 148,618.31). This price was achieved in the auction 19th Century European Art at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00 set by the auction house. Other works by Marcus Stone have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in February 2003 by the work My Lady is a Widow and Childless 'Tis better to be lowly born, and range with humble livers in content, than to be perk'd up in a glistering grief, and wear a golden sorrow' William Shakespeare, The Life of King Henry VIII, act II, scene, 3. at GBP 116,650.00 (€ 170,305.32).
